Summary: | This research project addresses the role of culture in teaching and learning foreign languages, using a Task-based Learning approach (TBLT) and a Flipped Learning Approach (FLA) with fifth grade students from a public school in Cali, Colombia. The purpose of the research is to awaken intercultural sensitivity by evidencing cultural characteristics of the students integrating the group. These characteristics were mainly focused on physical appearance, personal background, among others, using the foreign language as a means of exploration and communication. In this sense, this study reveals that most of the students recognize and value the cultural diversity that surrounds them. This is appreciated in their intercultural awareness and attitudes of respect and curiosity towards the otherness. Achievements in this regard allowed to transform the classroom into a place for promoting learning of a foreign language and for raising intercultural sensitivity, an important aspect in the process of teaching and learning foreign languages |
