In Colombia, the definition of the word biosolid is given by the Technical Regulation of the Potable Water and Sanitation Sector, RAS 2000, where handling isn`t regulated. On this, the generalities, for sludge, are established for the management and facility design, although the basic sanitation is defined as a constitutional right. According to this, in the CONPES document 3177 of 2002, the priority actions and guidelines are established for the development and operation of the national plan of management of the sewage and which is related to the use from waste treatment plants, which ensures an environmental management system, that is covered in the solid waste management and it is regulated in the decree 1713 of 2002 of the Ministry of Economic Development. It is intended the recovery and the use of the materials incorporated into the solid waste. The vermiculture, among others, is as an example of this ways of exploitation. The use of the soil established in the land use plan (LUP/POT) must be taken into account, to the localization of the solid waste exploitation. it is adopted by the District Decree 619 of 2000 of the Alcaldia of Bogota D.C., which has as a government policy, the final destination of the landfills. Another aspect to be taken into account, in the management of the sewage and sludge, is the content of the pathogens, for which we are governed under standards of the Environmental Protection Agency- EPW. CFR title 40 part 503, since this aspect requires a management of responsibility and quality. if it is wanted to later use of these sludge, to avoid any risk to human health.
