Optimizing the plug extraction process is highly important for oil industry
because these rock samples represent the only direct and quantitative way to measure reservoir properties and provide extensive and relevant information for performing an accurate characterization of reservoir. Due to the importance of plugs
the aim of this project was designing a methodology to optimize the plug extraction process by using supporting technology such as X-ray computerized axial tomography
in order to gather high quality and precise representative samples. To this respect
this project focus on the use of TAC images coming from a tomography report that provide necessary information to conduct a detailed analysis for assessing samples and discarding zones inapt for plug extraction
such as the case of fractured or vuggy zones. Similarly
this project intends to target exact location for extracting samples of single-layer rocks
which is previously selected based on well and core records. Consequently
the application of this methodology seeks to increase the possibilities to take benefit of rock samples.
