The deposition of CaCO3 in porous media is considered a main issue in formation damage
productivity. Despite deposition being a well-known phenomenon
the experimental studies regarding deposition in porous media are rather limited. In this work a theorical and experimental study is presented
oriented to comprehend formation damage due to CaCO3 scale deposition
by reduction of permeability in Bereas core samples due to coreflooding with brines prone to scale precipitation and further deposition in porous media. A correlation for modeling the deposition of these scales was developed at different flow rates (from 1 cc/min to 3 cc/min) and different calcium ion concentrations (from 250 ppm to 650 ppm). Furthermore
the correlation was validated with a central point test. The permeability impairment due to deposits of CaCO3 is determined by a complex study based on an experimental design considering several main factors which affects this phenomenon. Thus
new correlations have been proposed in this study for the prediction of damage (percentage of permeability impairment) with an approximate 80% precision. The correlation development has been proposed in base at the results of the experimental design.
