Description
Summary:ABSTRACT: This Action Research (AR) project was conducted to understand how the implementation of a Critical Media Literacy (CML) project allows 11th graders to challenge Cultural Representations (CR) of drugs, sex, and consumerism in an English as a Foreign Language (EFL) class. The project was implemented at a public high school located in the municipality of Rionegro, Antioquia, Colombia. The data were gathered through qualitative methods such as teacher’s journals, students’ artifacts, and questionnaires applied to both students and the cooperative teacher. The data analysis revealed that the implementation of a CML project about CR allowed some students to challenge their worldviews concerning drugs, sex, and consumerism while becoming media creators and increasing their active participation in the English class.
