Por lo tanto son comúnmente utilizadas en clases de inglés como lengua extranjera para facilitar el aprendizaje del idioma. La literatura estudiada para esta monografía, basada principalmente en nueve estudios realizados en universidades colombianas, encontró que las herramientas tecnológicas más utilizadas por estudiantes y profesores para practicar y mejorar el nivel de inglés son blogs, correos electrónicos y podcasts. Además, los beneficios más importantes del uso de nuevas tecnologías en la enseñanza y el aprendizaje del inglés son el mejoramiento de las diferentes competencias en inglés y la autonomía de los estudiantes. Aunque la mayoría de los impactos de las TICs en el aprendizaje y la enseñanza del inglés son positivos, existen algunos aspectos que puedan afectar el proceso de forma negativa como las dificultades técnicas, la falta de familiarización de los profesores con la tecnología y la ausencia de objetivos pedagógicos relacionados con las actividades propuestas en clase. La presente monografía está basada en un pequeño número de estudios que reflejan tanto la falta de información que existe en el sistema educativo colombiano como una gran oportunidad para futuras investigaciones. A pesar de las limitaciones de la muestra, esta monografía provee herramientas útiles para administradores, profesores y estudiantes; se espera que tenga un impacto positivo en los esfuerzos hechos a nivel nacional y regional para fortalecer la enseñanza del inglés en Colombia.Information and communication technologies are presumed to have a great impact in education. Therefore they are commonly used in English as a foreign language classroom to facilitate students’ language learning. The literature review, mostly based on the examination of nine studies conducted in Colombian universities, found that the most used technological tools used by students and teachers to practice and improve English language level are blogs, emails and podcasts. Furthermore, the most important benefits of the use of new technologies in English language teaching and learning are the improvement of students’ language proficiency and students’ autonomy. Despite the fact that most of the impacts of ICTs in English language teaching and learning are positive, there are some factors that can affect that process negatively such as technical difficulties, teachers’ lack of familiarity with technologies and the absence of pedagogical objective related to the proposed class activities. The current study is based on a relatively small number of studies which reflects both, a profound information gap that remains within the Colombian educative system, and a tremendous opportunity for future research. Despite the limitations of sample size, the current study provides useful tools for administrators, teachers and students; which hopefully will have a positive impact on national and regional efforts
