An EFL classroom was used as the setting to analyze power relationships among students. A qualitative case study was carried out in a public school from Sogamoso; the participants were 8 students, selected at random from a group of 35. The data was gathered through field notes, video recordings and focused interviews. After analyzing the data, it was found that aspects connected to power relationships sometimes either helped or hindered the participants’ English language learning process. Positive and negative features concerning power relationships within the EFL classroom were identified. Positive features include the use of power to motivate the accomplishment of tasks. Negative features include the use of power to suppress others thereby limiting their ability to express opinions in class.application/pdfengspaUniversidad Pedagógica y Tecnológica de Colombiahttps://revistas.uptc.edu.co/index.php/enletawa_journal/article/view/7538/6230Copyright (c) 2017 ENLETAWA JOURNALhttp://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2Enletawa Journal; Vol. 9 No. 1 (2016): January - JuneEnletawa Journal; Vol. 9 Núm. 1 (2016): January - June2463-19652011-835XPowerPower RelationshipsTask Based Language LearningClassroom EnvironmentEnglish Language Learning ProcessStudents’ Power Relationships within an EFL Classroominfo:eu-repo/semantics/articlehttp://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_2df8fbb1Gutiérrez Pulido, Lila Maribel001/16031oai:repositorio.uptc.edu.co:001/160312025-07-18 11:15:27.217metadata.onlyhttps://repositorio.uptc.edu.coRepositorio Institucional UPTCrepositorio.uptc@uptc.edu.co |
