description The aim of this paper is to explore the relationship between multiple intelligences and verbal comprehension of students in 5th grade students of Basic Education. A sample of 34 subjects aged between 10 and 13 years (M= 11.33; DT= 0.32) was used. The level of multiple intelligences was analyzed through the inventory on Multiple Intelligences (Armstrong, 1999; adapted by Prieto and Ballester, 2003) and verbal comprehension index using the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children Revised; (WICSIV; Wechsler, 2005). The results show positive correlations and statistically significant between intrapersonal intelligence and naturalist intelligence and verbal comprehension. However, no positive correlations were found between speech understanding and other intelligence. Following is an intervention program designed to strengthen understanding through verbal methodology focused on intelligence multiple.

Se utilizó una muestra de 34 sujetos con edades comprendidas entre los 10 y 13 años (M= 11.33; DT= 0.32). Se analizó el nivel de inteligencias múltiples a través del Inventario de Inteligencias Múltiples (Armstrong, 1999; adaptado por Prieto y Ballester, 2003) y el índice de comprensión verbal mediante la Escala Wechsler de Inteligencia para Niños Revisada (WICS-IV; Wechsler, 2005). Los resultados obtenidos muestran correlaciones positivas y estadísticamente significativas entre la inteligencia intrapersonal e inteligencia naturalista y la comprensión verbal. Sin embargo, no se hallaron correlaciones positivas entre compren- sión verbal y el resto de las inteligencias. Como consecuencia se diseñó un programa de intervención para fortalecer la comprensión verbal a través de la metodología centrada en las inteligencias múltiples.O objetivo da pesquisa, resultado deste artigo, foi explorar a relação entre inteligências múltiplas e compreensão verbal em estudantes da 5ª série do Ensino Fundamental. Foi utilizada uma amostra de 34 indivíduos com idades entre 10 e 13 anos (M = 11,33; DT = 0,32). O nível de inte- ligências múltiplas foi analisado por meio do Inventário de Inteligência Múltipla (Armstrong, 1999; adaptado por Prieto e Ballester, 2003) e o índice de compreensão verbal utilizando a Escala de Inteligência para Crianças de Wechsler Revisada (WICS-IV; Wechsler, 2005 ) Os resultados obtidos mostram correlações positivas e estatisticamente significantes entre inteligência intrapessoal e inteligência naturalista e compreensão verbal. No entanto, não foram encontradas correlações positivas entre a compreensão verbal e o restante das inteligências.
