Summary:Educational research is a passionate aspect, but which requires investigative, pedagogical foundations; The objective of formative evaluation as a pedagogical strategy for solving mathematical problems in 9th grade students is to analyze the effect of formative evaluation as a strategy in solving mathematical problems in 9th grade students of the IEDR "San Pedro Apostol Las Flores ”municipality of Guamal, Magdalena; From this investigative aspect, a positivist research paradigm is developed, with a quasi-experimental design that opens a space for a pedagogical workshop and formative evaluation, to better understand one of the most temporary educational missions, such as problem solving. The results showed how the situational articulation of pedagogical experiences allows a broader, more accurate and tuned evaluation to be carried out with the student's thinking needs, articulating decision-making, the performance of skills based on the need for strategic educational planning, as unique option to improve the academic performance of students
