Summary:In this research, the incidence of TIC mediations in the academic performance of students of the secondary school in the area of language in the Educational Institution of the Sagrada Familia of San Andres Island, Colombia is analyzed. For this, a diagnostic test was applied that allowed to identify the state of the competences in language in a sample of 103 students. Subsequently, a training process was developed with the inclusion of TIC in the language area during an academic term. Finally, an evaluation was applied in order to compare the degree of appropriation of language skills by students. The study showed that the students of the experimental group developed the language competences, since in the pretest there was a greater deviation when facing the inferential and critical level of reading, on the other hand, in the posttest it was reflected a greater appropriation in the levels of reading that generated more assertiveness in the solution of the test and consequently the communicative and textual competences were strengthened. It was concluded that the use of TIC as a didactic mediation strategy contributes to the improvement of the academic unemployment of the students through the development of competences in the language area
