Description
Summary:This research project is focused on the need to implement a didactic strategy that allows strengthening critical reading skills in students. Its overall objective is to assess the impact of applying narrative strategies in the development of critical reading competence in 6th-grade students from the Las Américas and Desarrollo Para el Talento Humano District Educational Institutions. The work addresses theoretical references related to the strengthening of critical reading, using narrative as a didactic strategy to motivate students to focus on reading, turn it into a habit, and thus develop reading competencies that lead to better academic performance in different knowledge areas. This research adopts a qualitative approach and is framed within the Action Research Method. Techniques such as observation, interviews, and focus groups were employed. These applied information collection techniques allowed understanding the initial difficulties students faced regarding critical reading, as well as their progress after applying the narrative strategy. The analysis of the results revealed that the narrative-centered strategy significantly contributes to the development and strengthening of students' critical reading competence. Students transitioned from being passive learners with little interest in reading and comprehension (some limited to a literal level) to engaged readers capable of interpreting more easily, identifying themes and the author's intention, as well as analyzing and arguing while exchanging ideas with others.
