Summary:The objective of this study was to determinate if the interdisciplinary reading applied as a strategy could strengthen reading comprehension for students belong to third grade at Institución Educativa Comunitaria Distrital Manuel Elkin Patarroyo. The strategy was aimed at improving reading levels from the students, detected in a Reading Competence. To evaluate reading comprehension in students, teachers used a guide called Prueba de Caracterización del nivel de fluidez y comprensión lectora. This guide was given by Ministerio de Educación Nacional. It was applied a pre test and a post test to sample formed a control group and experimental one, both groups belonging to third grade of basic primary. The sample was formed by 72 students of both sexes and belonging to regular classrooms at the time of the characterizations. Educational intervention was comprised of readings that were part of multiple subjects: Social Sciences, Sciences, Ethics and values, Art and Language, using reading from the interdisciplinary and knowledge integration. Similarly, strengthened the reading strategy interdisciplinary with the elaboration of didactic material seeking to motivate the reader habit and enrichment of significant experiences as a contribution to teaching practice. He was a descriptive statistical analysis, which compiled the results both of the pre test and post test, to check if the reading comprehension of students in the experimental group was strengthened by the interdisciplinary reading strategy.
