Description
Summary:This paper addresses the incidence of the didactic mediation of ICT as a strategy to strengthen the development of reading skills in sixth grade students of the I.E.D. La Unión, located in the city of Barranquilla. The analysis arises taking into account the results obtained in external tests and the results of the academic performance of students in the last four years, which show the existence of a difficulty that has not allowed to demonstrate higher levels of understanding in most students, being this an institution that has been characterized by maintaining good standards in educational quality over the years. Initially, a look at the current context and the existence of the application of ICT-mediated strategies in the institution was carried out through a documentary review of the PEI and the Area Plan, a structured interview was applied to 59 sixth grade students and teachers about the strategies and methodologies from which reading skills are currently addressed in the institution and finally activities were applied that allowed evaluating the objective of the proposal and comparing the degree of appropriation of the students of reading skills, which was demonstrated during the development of reading activities through strategies supported by the use of ICT applications a significant progress in the levels of comprehension. In conclusion, it is determined that the use of ICT as a mediation strategy for the development of reading skills contributes satisfactorily to the progress of the academic performance of the students of the IED. The study has been supported by some theories such as Vygotsky's sociocultural theory, David Ausubel meaningful learning and Piaget's theory of evolutionary development, as well as George Siemens' postulates on connectivism. We worked under the methodology of the socio-critical paradigm; the chosen research is framed within the qualitative approach, using action research, since both the approach to the problem and the application of strategies and tasks are carried out within the daily life of the classroom and for the improvement of the processes of the student population
