Summary:The purpose of this research is to configure a pedagogical proposal that, through the didactic mediation of narrative, strengthens reading and writing in the students of 2nd and 5th elementary school of the I.E.D. Comunitaria Octavio Paz. The theoretical support is built from the postulates of authors such as Solé, Cassany, García, Brunner, Peña, Chomsky, Vygotsky, Piaget, among others, who emphasize the importance of reading and writing for the integral formation of students. The methodological design is based on an interpretative paradigm, an introspective - experiential epistemological approach and a qualitative research approach; the techniques and instruments applied were participant observation and interviews. The results showed that many teachers try to mediate in a didactic way the narrative to the subjects they teach, but there are many methodological elements that make it difficult to achieve this in the classroom, teachers have the availability, but the lack of updating and training does not allow this mediation to be optimal, which is why they recharge to the area of language all the reading and writing work in the process of teaching and learning of the student. It is concluded that it is important to implement a pedagogical proposal that strengthens this reading and writing process and can give students the necessary tools and help in the development of the competences and skills of reading and writing mediated by narrative
