In addition, the antioxidant activity of the ethanolic extract was determined by evaluating their scavenging of the DPPH radical. The ethanolic extract exhibited a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity for both Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria with MICs of 256-1024ppm. For MICs between 1 and 512ppm, fungi showed greater sensitivity to extract than bacteria. Nisin used as positive control caused growth inhibition of all bacteria tested, with MICs between 2 and 1024ppm. In contrast, fungi were not inhibited by nisin. Results also indicated that the ethanolic extract had good scavenging of DPPH radical with an EC 50 of 7710 ±0.6318ppm.juan.quintanac@campusucc.edu.co551-547Interciencia AssociationAspergillus nigerBacillus cereusBacteria (microorganisms)Bixa orellanaByssochlamysByssochlamys fulvaCandida albicansEscherichia coliFungiListeria monocytogenesNegibacteriaPenicillium chrysogenumPosibacteriaPseudomonas aeruginosaSaccharomyces cerevisiaeSalmonella typhimuriumShigella sonneiStaphylococcus aureusEthanolic extract from leaves of Bixa orellana L.: A potential natural food preservativeArtículohttp://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_2df8fbb1http://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85info:eu-repo/semantics/articlehttp://purl.org/redcol/resource_type/ARTinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionIntercienciainfo:eu-repo/semantics/closedAccesshttp://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_14cbPublication20.500.12494/42815oai:repository.ucc.edu.co:20.500.12494/428152024-08-20 16:23:27.385metadata.onlyhttps://repository.ucc.edu.coRepositorio Institucional Universidad Cooperativa de Colombiabdigital@metabiblioteca.com
