description El sector ganadero en Colombia es de vital importancia para el país, este mercado aporta aproximadamente el 1.6% de Producto Interno Bruto (PIB), por tal motivo la producción y exportación de semen bovino ayuda a fortalecer la industria. Este trabajo busca identificar y analizar el mejor mercado potencial de semen bovino en Suramérica de semen bovino, teniendo en cuenta su producción, sus exportaciones, sus importaciones, sus medidas fitosanitarias y arancelarias. Se emplea una metodología cualitativa y el marco teórico que soporta la investigación se basa en las teorías del comercio internacional, como: la teoría de la localización, el modelo uppsala y el paradigma ecléctico, teniendo en cuenta que la ganadería es muy importante dentro de la producción agropecuaria nacional. Con base en lo anterior se escogen tres países de Suramérica los cuales son Brasil. Perú, Argentina, pero en secuencia con la investigación realizada se llega a la conclusión de que el mercado potencialmente atractivo para exportación desde Colombia es Argentina, debido a las características del ganado que tiene este país y la capacidad de adquisición del mismo, además de que Argentina cuenta con una variedad extensa en ganado y esto generaría cruces de razas y mejor clasificación genética para crecer en el mercado internacional.
