For this purpose, we developed a panel data model that includes economic and political factors. The results indicate that for income level there is a positive relation while showing that party alternation in states is negatively related with the degree of corruption. However, there is not sufficient evidence to suggest that an increase in political competition significantly affects the capability to combat corruption.application/pdftext/html10.18601/01245996.v17n33.072346-24500124-5996https://bdigital.uexternado.edu.co/handle/001/12073https://doi.org/10.18601/01245996.v17n33.07spaUniversidad Externado de Colombiahttps://revistas.uexternado.edu.co/index.php/ecoins/article/download/4309/4893https://revistas.uexternado.edu.co/index.php/ecoins/article/download/4309/5303Núm. 33 , Año 2015 : Julio-Diciembre1823316117Revista de Economía InstitucionalAhrend, R. “Press freedom, human capital and corruption”, DELTA working paper 2002-11, 2002.Aidt, T.
