description A pesar de la importancia económica y la proyección de su aumento en los próximos años, el turismo académico ha sido poco estudiado en Latinoamérica. El presente artículo examina el segmento de los estudiantes internacionales que escogieron a Monterrey (México) como destino para realizar un intercambio académico y el comportamiento turístico durante su estadía en el país. Se identifican siete factores que impulsan a los estudiantes a realizar una experiencia académica en el extranjero y once factores de atracción que influyen en la elección de un destino académico. Se determina que los estudiantes internacionales contribuyen de manera importante a la industria turística del país y la necesidad de enfocar los esfuerzos de atracción a la región de Asia-Pacífico.

The present study examined the segment of international students who chose Monterrey, Mexico to purse a study abroad experience and the travel behavior during their stay in the country. Specifically, it identifies seven push factors that motivate students to seek educational experiences abroad and eleven pull factors that influence academic destination choice.
