El Capítulo 2 presenta una revisión de la literatura para aclarar los conceptos de OI y BMI y propone un modelo que conecta las innovaciones para guiar la investigación empírica. El Capítulo 3 evalúa empíricamente el debate teórico clásico entre estrategia y estructura a la luz de la OI y el BMI como formas de cambio en una época turbulenta como la pandemia, utilizando las principales variables del modelo del Capítulo 2. Los resultados muestran que las IES colombianas avanzan hacia la OI, que guía la DT pero no crea BMI, apoyando la idea de que la estructura define las posibles estrategias. Estos resultados desafían la relación tradicional aceptada que propuso Chandler (1962) de que la estructura sigue a la estrategia. Con estos resultados, es necesario saber si las fuerzas externas o las capacidades estratégicas internas dan forma a las relaciones entre OI y BMI. Luego, el Capítulo 4 presenta una evaluación empírica que evalúa si las fuerzas externas moldean el proceso de DT hacia OI y BMI de manera similar para universidades en varios países o si las capacidades estratégicas permiten la diferenciación en OI y BMI.

Chapter 2 presents a literature review to clarify the concepts of OI and BMI and proposes a model connecting the innovations to guide empirical research. Chapter 3 empirically evaluates the classic theoretical debate between strategy and structure in the light of OI and BMI as forms of change in a turbulent time such as the pandemic, using the main variables of the model in Chapter 2. The results show that Colombian HEIs advance toward OI, which guides DT but does not create a BMI, supporting the idea that the structure defines the possible strategies. These results challenge the traditional accepted relationship that Chandler (1962) proposed that structure follows the strategy. With these results, knowing if external forces or internal strategical capabilities shape the relationships between OI and BMI is necessary. Then, Chapter 4 presents an empirical evaluation that evaluates if external forces shape the DT process toward OI and BMI similarly for universities in several countries or if strategic capabilities allow differentiation in the OI and BMI.118
