Summary: | The levels of marginalization of the population, the high influx of visitors and the ecological fragility are important criteria to take into account when proposing new projects on the tourist and recreational use of the beaches. In this sense, the tourism activity must offer a sustainable development that allows generating economic credits for the environment, culture and social organization of the host communities, which allows an economic diversification without increasing the environmental deterioration. The objective of this work is to propose a sustainable tourism model for the Altata Bay, Sinaloa, Mexico, with the purpose of contributing to the development of a low impact tourism activity, oriented towards alternative focus activities. Under the qualitative paradigm, interviews were conducted with restaurant owners, tourist-nautical recreational services, civil society and government actors, involved in the promotion of the destination, which allowed identifying the opportunities offered by the local tourism inventory. The results include a holistic description of the living forces immersed in the tourist activity of the destination, agents that determine the tourist potential of the Altata Bay. Based on them, there are methodological elements and concepts to develop a sustainable tourism product that favors the improvement in the living conditions of the local population, evidencing the importance of the joint effort between the actors to ensure that it responds to both economic and social criteria, environmental and cultural in the promotion of the destination |
