The author refers in general to the wide range of uses computer information systems are given by contemporary societies, which has led to regulation. The article analyzes statutory law in Venezuela regarding computer information systems used as tools for data and message transmission, then comparing Venezuelan statutes with those of other Latin American countries. Several ways in which computer information systems can be used as evidence are presented, highlighting forms in which they can be brought to trial. The author briefly analyzes ways in which evidence is gathered, brought to trial, and valued. The conclusion is that, despite statutes that order the use of computer information systems as evidence, they are still considered suspectLa investigación trata de una apreciación de los medios informáticos como elementos de prueba.
