description Durante la última década un creciente número de investigaciones han demostrado que los adolescentes con epilepsia no solo presentan deficiencias en el desarrollo de habilidades cognitivas básicas, sino también en procesos de cognición social. El objetivo de esta investigación estuvo encaminado a analizar la relación entre funcionamiento ejecutivo, cognición social y capacidad funcional entre adolescentes con epilepsia vs un grupo de controles. Este estudio presentó un alcance correlacional, donde se utilizó un diseño de casos y controles, el cual contó con la participación de 16 adolescentes con edades entre los 12 y 16 años asignados a dos grupos, a quienes les fue administrado los instrumentos WHODAS 2.0 versión para niños, NEPSY-II, FAUX PAS TEST versión para niños y HAYLING TEST. Los resultados sugieren que el grupo de adolescentes con epilepsia presentan menor desempeño en tareas de atención, memoria, funciones ejecutivas y cognición social. Además, se identifica una asociación entre componentes de cognición social (reconocimiento de emociones) y funcionalidad (participación social), así como de subdominios de cognición social (ToM verbal) y funciones ejecutivas (flexibilidad cognitiva) en esta población.

The objective of this research was aimed at analyzing the relationship between executive functioning, social cognition and functional capacity among adolescents with epilepsy vs a group of controls. This study presented a correlational scope, where a case-control design was used, which included the participation of 16 adolescents between the ages of 12 and 16 assigned to two groups, who were administered the instruments WHODAS 2.0 child version, NEPSY-II, FAUX PAS TEST child version and HAYLING TEST.
