According to the opportunities for the region to train in research from early education and to formalize the model of accompaniment of mentoring, a training experience was developed based on the mentoring model that suggested some conceptual and methodological bases to learn to investigate. The training put into practice the design of the methodology of the research project, through the "learn-doing" teaching modality, applying conceptual training during the process. Simultaneously, knowledge about the importance of transparency, rigor and responsibility from the design to the execution of the research project was expanded. The recognition of institutional support and the mentoring model as fundamental pillars of the experience. Aspects of the young researcher and mentors are required to motivate the scientific vocation in a research training experience.El programa Jóvenes Investigadores e Innovadores del Departamento Administrativo de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación – Colciencias, actual Ministerio de Ciencia y Tecnología de Colombia, busca la apropiación social del conocimiento, motivando la vocación científica en jóvenes a través de procesos de formación en investigación e innovación. De acuerdo con las oportunidades para la región de formar en investigación desde la educación temprana y formalizar el modelo de acompañamiento de la mentoría, se desarrolló una experiencia de formación que propuso algunas bases conceptuales y metodológicas para aprender a investigar. La formación permitió llevar a la práctica el diseño de la metodología del proyecto de investigación, a través de la metodología de enseñanza “aprender-haciendo” aplicando la formación conceptual en el transcurso del proceso. En simultáneo se amplió el conocimiento sobre la importancia de la transparencia, la rigurosidad y responsabilidad desde el diseño hasta la ejecución del proyecto de investigación. El reconocimiento del apoyo institucional y el modelo de la mentoría son pilares fundamentales de la experiencia.
