Toxoplasmosis is caused by Toxoplasma gondii, it is a zoonotic infection that affects intermediate and definitive hosts. The felines are the definitive hosts and it is where the sexual phase of the parasite takes place, spreading the cysts in the environment and thus favoring zoonosis. This is a disease in man, it can cause damage to different tissues, it can cross the transplacental barrier, which makes it a risk factor for pregnant women and newborns. T. gondii is distributed worldwide, due to its morphology and pathogenesis it has the capacity to infect almost any mammal or bird, facilitating its distribution. The infection can be symptomatic or asymptomatic, this according to the stage in which it is when it infects the human being, although this in Colombia is not considered as a disease of mandatory reporting.Introducción. -- Objetivos. -- Objetivo general. -- Objetivos específicos. -- Revisión bibliográfica. -- Historia del toxoplasma gondii. -- Toxoplasma gondii. -- Morfología. -- Ciclo de vida del toxoplasma gondii. -- Epidemiología. -- Patogenia. -- Diagnóstico. -- Signos clínicos. -- Tratamiento.
