Gracias a este se detectó que el sistema de mangle sufría una gran presión debido a la deforestación causada por la población, que lo utilizaba como fuente de energía para la cocina. El grupo Alfa Ciencia de la Institución Educativa Rural Miguel Pinedo Barros, con el apoyo del Programa Ondas de Colciencias y la coordinación del docente Oscar Eduardo Espinosa Pérez, estudió la estructura e importancia ecológica y socio-económica del sistema Natural de La primera Boquita para determinar el nivel de presión que ejerce la población sobre los parches de mangle situados en el litoral costero del municipio de Dibulla, en concreto sobre el Rizophora mangle o mangle rojo. Una segunda propuesta buscó que la población del corregimiento tomase conciencia de la importancia de salvaguardar el ecosistema al presentarle una alternativa que les permitía preparar sus alimentos sin necesidad de atentar contra este sistema natural. Para ello se construyó, con el apoyo del alemán Mark Heintzel, un espejo parabólico que concentra la energía de los rayos solares, que generaba el calor suficiente para cocinar los alimentos; esto permitió evitar el uso del mangle como combustible, contribuyendo a su protección y emisión de sustancias considerablemente nocivas para el medio ambiente y la salud humana como el CO2, alquitranes y compuestos aromáticos.
