Recurso ElectrónicoLa serpiente como figura mítica se ha consolidado en el devenir cultural del hombre como una entidad simbólica que tiene una amplia polivalencia semántica, dado que este contiene todo un universo simbólico. En la cultura azteca y muisca el ofidio evoca otras animalidades contenidas. En la cultura azteca este animal tiene varias connotaciones, una de ellas hace alusión a la serpiente emplumada relacionada con el ave. Mientras que en la cultura muisca las connotaciones morfológicas de este animal tienden a mostrar rasgos acuáticos. Este trabajo de investigación ha sido desarrollado en México, y en Colombia. Esto ha hecho posible la recolección de datos iconográficos que componen el corpus de la presente investigación. El trabajo ha sido abordado desde el método arquetipológico, con un enfoque de lenguaje perteneciente a la hermenéutica simbólica. En primera instancia, para acudir al tiempo cíclico, que alude a la huida del ser humano al tiempo cronológico, se tomó la perspectiva de Mircea Eliade. En segundo lugar, en la configuración arquetípica de la sierpe son fundamentales los aportes de Carl Gustav Jung y Gilbert Durand. Para el estudio del símbolo de la serpiente se tomó como punto de partida la teoría del símbolo desarrollada por Durand en La imaginación simbólica (2000). Esto ha conllevado a adoptar las dimensiones del símbolo planteadas por Paul Ricoeur, a fin de mostrar el hilo de continuidad entre el mito azteca y el mito muisca, con base en lo que se proyecta en el universo de la sierpe. Palabras clave: mito, interpretación, símbolo, serpiente, Huitzilopochtli, Bachué, arquetipo.As a mythical figure, the snake has consolidated itself in the cultural becoming of mankind as a symbolic entity that has wide-ranging semantic polyvalence especially given that this contains a whole symbolic universe. In Aztec and Muisca cultures the snake evokes various animal connotations. In Aztec culture this animal has various connotations, one of them refers to the feathered snake in relation with birds. While in Muisca culture the morphological connotations of this animal tend to show aquatic features. This research was carried out in Mexico and Colombia which made it possible to collect iconographic data that makes up the body of this investigation. The research was undertaken using the Archetypology Method with a focus on the language pertaining to symbolic hermeneutics. Primarily, with regards to cyclical time, which alludes to mankind’s escape from chronological time, Mircea Eliade’s perspective was taken. Secondly, the contributions of Carl Gustav Jung and Gilbert Durand were fundamental in the archetypal shaping of the serpent. The initial starting point for the analysis of the snake symbol was the theory of the symbol developed by Durand in La imaginación simbólica (2000). This involved adopting aspects of the symbol raised by Paul Ricoeur and a basis on that which is projected in the serpent’s universe in order to show the historical continuity between Aztec myth and Muisca myth.
