However, high dropoutrates may undermine the benefits of postgraduate education. This study aims to iden-tify which individual, academic, socio-economic, and institutional variables influencestudent attrition at the postgraduate level (master’s and doctoral) through a scopingreview. Using the PRISMA-ScR method, we analyzed 40 research articles for bibliomet-ric insights and specifically examined explanatory variables for postgraduate dropout.Within the individual determinant, explanatory variables include nationality, gender, age, marital status, family support, family and work obligations, and motivation levels.Socio-economic variables encompass the student’s income, employment status, andthe national macroeconomic environment. In the academic context, key variablescomprise prior knowledge, academic performance, student satisfaction, autonomy,self-efficacy, and research interest. Lastly, variables such as insufficient financial resour-ces, institutional policies, teacher-student interaction, student support, academic infra-structure, and curriculum design play pivotal roles in the institutional realm. Inconclusion, this study enhances our understanding of postgraduate dropout, offeringvaluable insights for the academic community and States to develop strategies thatimprove retention rates and reduce dropout levels in postgraduate educationValencia Quecano, Lira IsisGuzmán Rincón, AlfredoBarragán Moreno, Sandra THUMBNAILDropout in postgraduate programs a underexplored phenomenon a scoping review.pdf.jpgDropout in postgraduate programs a underexplored phenomenon a scoping review.pdf.jpgIM Thumbnailimage/jpeg10108https://expeditiorepositorio.utadeo.edu.co/bitstream/20.500.12010/35832/2/Dropout%20in%20postgraduate%20programs%20%20a%20underexplored%20phenomenon%20%20%20a%20scoping%20review.pdf.jpg0adf9b07caffceb47291c7228b5341b7MD52open accessORIGINALDropout in postgraduate programs a underexplored phenomenon a scoping review.pdfDropout in postgraduate programs a underexplored phenomenon a scoping review.pdfAbrir documento / Open documentapplication/pdf2506814https://expeditiorepositorio.utadeo.edu.co/bitstream/20.500.12010/35832/1/Dropout%20in%20postgraduate%20programs%20%20a%20underexplored%20phenomenon%20%20%20a%20scoping%20review.pdf2ea251aebf728e78f7e04141203de86aMD51open access20.500.12010/35832oai:expeditiorepositorio.utadeo.edu.co:20.500.12010/358322024-11-14 03:01:11.769open accessRepositorio Institucional - Universidad Jorge Tadeo Lozanoexpeditiorepositorio@utadeo.edu.co
