Summary: | In the history of international migration, the woman was a secondary migrant and her own right as a migrant was not recognized during the process: origin, transit, and destination. This work aims to characterize the international migration of Venezuelan women documented at their point of origin during 2018 and 2019, considering sociodemographic variables, causes of migration, migration networks of migrant women and their companions during the trip. The results reveal that more than 50% of the women are between 18 and 29 years old and single; more than 40% are university professionals; more than 50% seek new job opportunities and did not migrate because they were unemployed, but because of causes related to hunger, insecurity and violence, and because of new job opportunities. |
