El objetivo de este estudio es conocer la frecuencia con la que se presentaron pacientes con este trauma durante los años 2016 y 2017 en el Hospital Militar Central y caracterizarlos. Métodos: Para ello se tomaron las historias clínicas comprendidas dentro de este período de tiempo y se seleccionaron aquellas categorizadas con los códigos diagnósticos S622 a S624 de acuerdo con la clasificación internacional de las enfermedades (CIE-10) y que corresponden a los diagnósticos relacionados con fractura de metacarpianos. Finalmente se analizó cada historia clínica para determinar cada una de las variables seleccionadas para el estudio. Conclusiones: Se presentaron en 14 pacientes con diagnóstico de fractura de metacarpianos entre los años 2016-2017. Fue más frecuente este tipo de trauma en hombres menores de 40 años, siendo los metacarpianos 1ero y 5to los más comúnmente afectados. Hasta la mitad de estas fracturas fueron tratadas con manejo cerrado. Estos hallazgos son compatibles con la estadística mundial y abren la puerta al posible desarrollo de estrategias de promoción y prevención orientadas a este tipo de fracturas |

.................................................................................................................. 23Fractures of metacarpal bones are one of the most common traumas of the hand, nevertheless, it is not known what the incidence is, nor the prevalence or the demography of the patients with such diagnosis at the Central Military Hospital in Bogota. The object of this study is to know the frequency of patients presenting this type of injury during the years 2016 and 2017 in the Central Military Hospital and to characterize them. Methods: the clinical records from the period mentioned above were taken and those with the ICD-10 codes 2622 to S624, that correspond to those related to metacarpal bone fractures will be selected. Finally, each record was analyzed to determine every selected variable for the study. Conclusions: there was a total of 214 patients with diagnosis of metacarpal bone fracture between the years 2016 and 2017. This type of trauma was more frequent in males younger than 40 years, being the first and fifth metacarpals the more commonly affected. Up to half of the patients were treated with conservative therapy.
