Description
Summary:This study analyzes three alternatives for the reduction of commute times in the center of Bogotá: (1) land-use planning, (2) quality of the transport system and (3) diversification of means of transport. The third alternative is the center of this work, in which a simulation optimization model is proposed. A network flow model is used to simulate people?s commutes in the center of the city. The model seeks to simulate people smart decisions with linear optmiztion, regarding the best option depending on people?s personal choices in the means of transport that is chosen. Moreover, two models are proposed, and the corresponding results demonstrate that encouraging the diversification significantly improves commute times.
