In this thesis, field work framework and spatio temporal epidemiological models are designed to enhance the empowerment by communities in snakebite management, and tools s that estimate and monitor snakebite incidence were generated, which can be further used to test interventions and to optimize antivenom distribution.El accidente ofídico (Envenenamiento causado por mordeduras de serpientes) es la enfermedad tropical desatendida con mayor mortalidad y carga asociada. Los datos recolectados subestiman su afectación sobre la población rural, debido a la falta de accesibilidad al tratamiento (Suero antiofídico, que reduce drásticamente la mortalidad asociada al envenenamiento) que existe en múltiples países tropicales, y lo poco que se invierte en su manejo. Por esto, es crucial optimizar recursos y desarrollar estrategias de prevención in control. En esta tesis, se diseño de trabajo de campo mixto (Censo de serpientes y encuestas de personas), con el objetivo de posteriormente realizar intervenciones para mejorar la prevención y el manejo de este evento, y se desarrollaron modelos matemáticos epidemiológicos con la capacidad de estimar la carga total asociada al envenenamiento, y que logran monitorear espacio-temporalmente los casos.
