In analogy, given a map between Riemannian manifolds, we define an energy functional, in the sense of Eells and Sampson (that can be thought to be as a generalization of the physical energy), to deduce information on the target manifold. Particularly, we find that minimal curves with respect to the energy functional are, in fact, geodesics. We also introduce geometrical analysis results that allows us to probe the Eells and Sampson theorem which, in turn, can be applied for maps between pseudo-Riemannian manifolds.Dada una trayectoria de un sistema físico, la energía del sistema, más precisamente la energía de la trayectoria del sistema, desempeña un papel central en la física teórica que, por ejemplo, puede utilizarse para deducir la dinámica del sistema. Análogamente, dado un mapa entre variedades Riemannianas se define un funcional de energía, en el sentido de Eells y Sampson (que puede pensarse como una generalización de la energía física), para deducir información sobre la variedad de llegada. En particular, se muestra que las curvas minimales del funcional de energía son geodésicas.
