High-ability students who did not attend college had lower earnings seven years later, but forgoing college had little effect on earnings for lower-ability students.Este artículo estudia cómo una pausa entre el final del bachillerato y el inicio de los estudios universitarios afecta los resultados de las personas en la universidad y en el mercado laboral. Utilizamos un cambio en los calendarios académicos de dos departamentos de Colombia que le agregó unos meses a la transición entre el colegio y la universidad de miles de estudiantes. Usando datos administrativos y un diseño de control sintético mostramos que esta interrupción causó que muchos estudiantes no se matricularan en la universidad.
