description |
Air pollution is directly related to the development of different illnesses -mainly chronic diseases- such as ischemic heart disease and cerebrovascular attacks. The importance of this condition is accentuated considering that these pathologies generate high costs to the health system, although these are preventable. In Bogotá D.C, this situation has increased in last years, forcing the district to declare environmental alerts. Previous research of air contamination in Bogotá D.C focused on how citizens are exposed to air contamination according to the place of residence. These inquiries are not taking into account citizens are frequently moving from a place to another in the city, which may induce to wrong and biased conclusions. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to determine the impact of mobility on the exposure of citizens in Bogotá D.C to particulate matter PM2.5. An interactive map was developed to visualize the dynamics of the flow of people based on a random survey conducted in the city and mobility was modeled throughout a stochastic matrix and the expansion factors given by the survey. It is expected that the identification of mobility as an influential factor in the exposure to particulate material and the graphic representation of mobility, allows the development of public health policies or strategies, as well as serving as a starting point for future analyzes of exposure to environmental contamination. |
