Oilbird Guano sediment cores represent novel archives to reconstruct past terrestrial environments. "delta c thirteen" stable carbon isotope data, as well as carbon and nitrogen concentrations measured of a sediment core from the Cueva de los Guácharos (Huila, Colombia), enable us to approach to the precipitation regime of the past 700 years by disentangling the oilbirds (Steatornis caripensis) population dynamics in relation to its dietary preferences (Lauraceae and Arecaceae) as well as carbon and nitrogen fluxes. Methodological considerations and calcium variability were addressed by the comparison of two independent analytical methods (X-ray fluorescence vs. and elemental analyzer). Distinct d13C values within the C3 carbon metabolic pathway are proposed for Lauraceae (-28.5%) and Aracaceae (-29.6%). A positive correlation between "delta c thirteen" values and precipitation was inferred based on Lauraceae fructification seasonality coupled with the oilbirds reproductive period and peak guano deposition into the cave. Comparison of reconstructed paleoprecipitations of Cariaco basin (Venezuela), El Peñon (Santander) and Ubaque (Cundinamarca) demonstrate that the LIA and the CWP were significant drier climate anomalies in the region, dominated by distinct processes, the southward excursion of the ITCZ and establishment of El Niño conditions, respectively. Los datos de isótopos estables de carbono "delta c trece", así como las concentraciones de carbono y nitrógeno medidas de un núcleo de sedimentos de la Cueva de los Guácharos (Huila, Colombia), nos permiten aproximarnos al régimen de precipitación de los últimos 700 años desenredando la dinámica de la población de guácharos (Steatornis caripensis) en relación a sus frutos preferidos (Lauraceae y Arecaceae), así como los flujos de carbono y nitrógeno. Las consideraciones metodológicas y la variabilidad del calcio se abordaron mediante la comparación de dos métodos analíticos independientes (fluorescencia de rayos X frente a analizador elemental). Distintos valores de "delta c trece" dentro de la ruta metabólica de carbono C3 se proponen para las familias Lauraceae (-28.5%) y Aracaceae (-29.6%). Con base en la estacionalidad en la fructificación de Lauraceae, junto con el período reproductivo de los guácharos y el pico de deposición de guano en la cueva, se infirió una correlación positiva entre los valores de "delta c trece" y la precipitación. La comparación con las paleoprecipitaciones reconstruidas de la cuenca Cariaco (Venezuela), El Peñón (Santander) y Ubaque (Cundinamarca) demostró que los periodos LIA y CWP fueron anomalías climáticas regionales significativamente más secas, dominadas por distintos procesos, la excursión hacia el sur de la ITCZ y el establecimiento de las condiciones de El Niño, respectivamente.
