The relevance of this discussion has its origins from the fact that the postponed reforms by the Colombian State go through the state consolidation and, in turn, these reforms are necessary conditions for achieving peace. The country requires changes and institutional reforms, which will increase fiscal resources and enable the administration and control of the territory, that have been hampered by the existing power structures between the center and the regions.El propósito de este trabajo es analizar los principales argumentos planteados por diferentes autores que han profundizado acerca del tipo de consolidación estatal que se ha originado como consecuencia de dos factores principales: primero, las articulaciones que prevalecen en el sistema político colombiano entre el centro y las regiones configura cierto tipo de instituciones, y segundo, el estilo de desarrollo que ha predominado en el país. La relevancia de esta discusión se origina en el hecho de que las reformas postergadas por el Estado colombiano pasan por la consolidación estatal y, a su vez, estas reformas son condiciones necesarias para alcanzar la paz.
