Summary: | Literature on Blockchain, the technology behind bitcoin, has focused only on the economic part. However, this disruptive technology allows creating applications for global governance, developed by cyberactivists, that aim to undermine the international importance of the State in the political and legal conception. The emergence of Blockchain applications will have profound implications for two main reasons: firstly, cyber-activism is capable of creating right "from below", because it creates legal insecurity by its social practices in cyberspace and drives the emergence of international regulation. This process is dialectical, since it allows individuals to subjectivate international law by reinterpreting and filling international treaties with content. Second, Blockchain's new forms of algorithmic and open-source governance challenge the very theoretical foundations of global governance, which ultimately underpin international relations and international law. This research argues that this technology allows individuals to "hack" the state and thus appropriate international legal and political discourse, and question the very foundations and paradigms in which international society has been built.--Tomado del Formato de Documento de Grado. |
