Summary: | Preventive maintenance is a powerful tool that many industries are using to save costs, reducing the need to implement corrective maintenance. For the case of this paper a preventive maintenance strategy will be implemented to minimize the cost of maintenance for the baggage transport system of the Alfredo Velasquez Cobo international airport. In order to determine the best time to define the preventive maintenance, a discrete event simulation has been run to estimate the number of failures for each maintenance strategy. According to this, it is necessary to simulate a state of failure, therefore, an engine degradation dataset was used to find the parameters for a Weibull distribution that represents in the best way a rate failure distribution. Using the parameters of this distribution it was possible to build a complete representation of the baggage transport system of the airport, including the induction of failures. However, it was necessary to assure that this simulation was a truthful and congruent representation of the real system. The solution for this was to compare the results obtained by the discrete event simulation with the results of a virtual commissioning of the baggage conveyors of the airport. Finally, a maintenance strategy was obtained with the optimal time between preventive maintenances and the lower maintenance cost |
