The project has generated an extensive data set of infrared observations captured by the VISTA telescope at ESO's Paranal Observatory in Chile between 2010 and 2015. Following the publication of the data collected in the VVV survey, Ph.D. in Physics Bayron Rodríguez, from the Universidad de los Andes, meticulously processed this information into photometric time series for fields b278 and b279 as part of his doctoral thesis (Rodríguez 2024) with the aim of exploring the performance of supervised classifiers. Starting from these data, the main objective of this thesis is to generate time series to understand the temporal variability of stars in these astronomical regions, followed by their classification using semi-supervised machine learning techniques. In this context, the research of this thesis processes these time series with at least 58 bright points, implementing clustering and random forest techniques in the b278 and b279 fields. Specifically, a training sample with known labels is used to classify variable and non-variable stars. The application of this methodology to time series aims to generate patterns of stellar behavior that may not have been evident in previous approaches (Rodríguez, 2019). Photometric time series thus act as fundamental features for the clustering process, representing the luminous evolution of a star over time and capturing its intrinsic variability. The method is developed by processing the time series to ensure the consistency and quality of the data, generating a training sample of the classes of Cepheid stars, RRLyræ, long period variables and eclipsing binaries. The results obtained are very encouraging and significant in the field of variable star classification within the VVV survey, achieving an accuracy of 98.88% and an F1 score of 98.79%. These results highlight the effectiveness and robustness of the semi-supervised methods and the generalization capacity of the model to other fields in the galactic bulge.PregradoStellar Variability156 páginasapplication/pdfengUniversidad de los AndesFísicaFacultad de CienciasDepartamento de FísicaAttribution-NoDerivatives 4.0 Internationalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nd/4.0/info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccesshttp://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2Clustering of temporal series of variable stars: a detailed analysis of the central regions of the Milky Way using the VVV surveyAgrupamiento de series temporales de estrellas variables: Un análisis detallado de la región central de la Vía Láctea usando el catálogo VVVTrabajo de grado - Pregradoinfo:eu-repo/semantics/bachelorThesisinfo:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersionhttp://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_7a1fTexthttp://purl.org/redcol/resource_type/TPAstronomyClusteringVVV surveyMachine learningVariable StarVariabilityMilky WayFísicaAngeloni, R. et al. 2014, A&A, 567, 100Arribas, L. 2019, undergraduate thesis, Universitat Oberta de CatalunyaBuitrago, F. & González, M. 2020, MNRAS, 13, 46Cole, A. et al. 2023, ApJ, 2, 73Fernández, M. 2002, undergraduate thesis, Universidad de MadridFerreira, C. et al. 2015, A&A, 573, 78Gaposchkin, C. 1954, Harvard University Press, 96, 555Goodricke, J. 1783, Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London, 1, 479Goodricke, J. 1783, Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London, 73, 479Gould, B.
