Description
Summary:The spectacled bear is the only member of the ursus genus the inhabits South America. Usually, bears have been represented as symbols of strength and is even regarded as the father of humans among some indigenous communities. Nonetheless, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), this species classified as vulnerable. To understand this, I present three journalistic articles with the main three issues that the tremarctos ornatus face in Colombia: the lack of scientific knowledge of the species and the hardships of its investigation; the incessant conflict of this bear and humans, which has cost many lives of this specimen; finally, the legislative juggling that has prevented the acknowledgement of some animal rights to the bears.
