Description
Summary:Nowadays, the use of substances of petrochemical origin has detrimental environmental consequences. In the case of surfactants, the quest for sustainable and environmentally friendly production has become quite important at the industrial level due to the benefits they offer as a result of their potential in interfacial activity. The objective of this project was to analyze, from the economic perspective, the process of production of a biosurfactant obtained from the heterologous expression of the transmembrane protein OmpA in Escherichia coli. To this end, ASPEN PLUS V 8.6 software was used to simulate the production process of the protein on an industrial scale from the conditions specified in laboratory scale. This simulation allowed the estimation of the project cost structure divided into investment costs and operational costs, and the proceeds from the sale of the protein for its use in the cosmetic industry. Likewise, the present conditions of Colombian economy were considered for the estimation of the project's cash flows with an evaluation period of 10 years. This balance was made in order to establish the present value of the project, the time of recovery of the investment and its internal rate of return. Finally, a sensitivity analysis was carried out with the objective of determining the sale price of the product, from which the project reaches a break even with respect to its competitiveness, indicated by the opportunity cost with which it was compared.--Tomado del Formato de Documento de Grado.
