The first section expose Charles Taylor's conception of the secular state. Additionally, it brings some concepts from Taylor's philosophy of language, which allows to understand how an individual point of view and the public space are configured. The second section presents Talal Asad's critic of the secular state. This critic can elucidate some problematic assumptions that emerge from accepting a liberal comprehension of the state. The third section tries to provide some considerations from Taylor's posture that may answer Asad's critic; however, recognizing the tensions and limitations that remain present between these perspectives. The last section offers an interpretation of Taylor's philosophy of language and his conception of the secular state, in order to expose how it is possible to reconfigure our identity as individuals and as a society.Este texto está compuesto de cuatro apartados. En el primero, se busca exponer la comprensión que Taylor tiene sobre el Estado secular y, asimismo, introducir elementos desde la filosofía del lenguaje que úste mismo autor tiene, que aporten a dar una idea de cómo se hace posible la configuración de un punto de vista singular y, a su vez, de cómo se hace posible el espacio público. En el segundo apartado, se trae a colación la crítica propuesta por Talal Asad al Estado secular con el propósito de evidenciar algunos presupuestos problemáticos que puede conllevar asumir una postura liberal como la de Taylor. En el tercer apartado, se proponen algunas consideraciones, desde la postura de Taylor, que puedan dar respuesta a la crítica de Asad, no obstante, intentando evidenciar las tensiones y limitaciones que quedan abiertas a partir de la crítica.
