The explanation of this concept can be done in a comparative way using authors, artists and architects who recognize two main ways of making monuments: one associated with monumentalism and the other with monumentality. On the other hand, a brief historical tour was made about the changes suffered by the treatment of the post-modern monument, the analysis of the concept and the approach of a contemporary vision of the possible values ??and characteristics that must be contained. Finally, we show the advances around what is known as a contemporary monument, containing them in three main aspects that were recognized by the analysis.En este trabajo en un primer momento se habla del concepto de monumento en razón a la construcción del metro en Bogotá. Esta asociación se ha debido a las congruencias de las características entre lo que se ha planeado que es esta infraestructura nueva y el monumento en sentido arquitectónico y escultórico. La explicación de dicho concepto se puede hacer de una manera comparativa haciendo uso de autores, artistas y arquitectos que reconocen dos maneras principales de hacer monumentos: una asociada al monumentalismo y otra a la monumentalidad. Por otro lado, se hizo un recorrido histórico breve sobre los cambios que sufrieron el tratamiento del monumento posterior a la modernidad, el análisis del concepto y el planteamiento de una visión contemporánea de los posibles valores y características que deben contener.
