Description
Summary:The suction in partially saturated soils creates problems in the exercise of civil engineering because it can give false values of resistance to the desired humidity conditions against those present in the rainy season. When the suction decreases, the soils lose strength and can expand. To study this behavior, a consolidation device is developed to allow, through the axis translation technique, study the effects of suction on soil resistance. This paper presents a case of success of a test performed with the new consolidation apparatus using soil derived from volcanic ash. The results are analyzed, the main components of the equipment are detailed, the requirements for its operation and the final conclusions of what is learned with the equipment.
