Lipid droplets (LDs) are structures responsible for storing neutral lipids and are involved with various biological roles in animals, fungi, plants, and bacteria, with a relevant role in lipid metabolic processes in cells. We study the dynamics (size and number) of LDs through growth phases in five Malassezia species using the laser scanning confocal fluorescence microscopy co-staining technique. We were able to show significant differences in the parameters analyzed between the different Malassezia spp.El género Malassezia se ha asociado con microbiota cutánea humana y animal, afecciones dermatológicas e incluso infecciones sistémicas. Esta levadura es dependiente de lípidos, por lo que las fuentes de lípidos disponibles en el medio son esenciales para su supervivencia y el desarrollo de sus funciones celulares. Las gotas de lípidos (LDs) son estructuras encargadas de almacenar lípidos neutros y están involucradas con diversos roles biológicos en animales, hongos, plantas y bacterias, con un papel relevante en los procesos metabólicos de lípidos en las células. Estudiamos la dinámica (tamaño y número) de LD a través de las fases de crecimiento en cinco especies de Malassezia utilizando la técnica de co-tinción de microscopía de fluorescencia confocal de barrido láser.
