The sources come mainly from Buenaventura's custom files, and consider the value and weight of the traded goods, the taxes and the amount of ships that entered and left the port. From these, some others aspects arise that have to do with the merchant's network that moved from the region of Cali-Buenaventura, the transport system articulation, the smuggling control and the merchantsociety." -- Tomado del Formato de Documento de Grado."El circuito comercial que se desarrolló en el Valle del Cauca a finales del siglo XIX fue un proceso complejo y diverso, que integró la acción de varios agentes en diferentes espacios. Esta tesis analiza aquellos que intervinieron directamente en la actividad comercial: mercaderías, comerciantes, medios de transporte y la aduana de Buenaventura, sobre un amplio espacio comercial que iba desde el Valle del río Cauca hasta los puertos de Europa y Estados Unidos. Las fuentes provienen principalmente de los archivos de la aduana de Buenaventura y dan cuenta del valor y peso de los productos comercializados, los impuestos y la cantidad de embarcaciones que entraron y salieron del puerto.
