Study of the genus Amanita and social aspects in the conservation of macrofungi in Colombia

Amanita is a worldwide-distributed fungal genus, with ca. 600 species known. The species representing this genus are mostly EetoMycorrhizal (ECM), and some are saprotrophic. A total of 17 speeies have been reported for Colombia based on morphological descriptions. In this study we conducted the firs...

description Amanita is a worldwide-distributed fungal genus, with ca. 600 species known. The species representing this genus are mostly EetoMycorrhizal (ECM), and some are saprotrophic. A total of 17 speeies have been reported for Colombia based on morphological descriptions. In this study we conducted the first comprehensive phylogeny of ECM speeies in the genus collected in native Colombian Quercus humboldtii and in introduced Pinus patula forests. We included eight (A. arocheae, A. colombiana, A. flavoconia, A. fuligineodisca, A. muscaria, A. rubescens, A. sororcula and A. xylinivolva) out of 17 speeies present in the country, a first report of A. citrina, and the description of a new species: Amanita capillensis. Morphological taxonomic keys together with a phylogenetic approach using three nuclear gene regions: the rDNA 28S nuclear ribosomal Large SubUnit rRNA (nLSU) partial sequenee, the Internal Transcribed Spacers ITS1 and ITS2, and a portion of the gene for translation elongation factor 1 (tef la), were used to classify the specimens. Several highly supported clades were obtained from the phylogenetic hypotheses inferred by Bayesian inference and maximum likelihood approaches, allowing us to position the Colombian collections in a coherent infrageneric level, and to contribute to the Amanita local diversity knowledge
