Description
Summary:Ophidic accident is a problem that affects rural populations globally, thus being one of the most well-known causes of mortality of zoonotic origin, and yet one of the most neglected. In Colombia, and globally, the epidemiological study of poisonings in grazing animals is an area yet to be explored. In this work, an epidemiological study on the ophidian accident in cattle will be carried out using data for the Rey Zamuro-Matarredonda Hda Natural Reserve in San Martín (Meta) where occurs one of the two species of snakes that cause the highest incidence of human poisonings: Bothrops atrox. An approximation of the mortality rate that affects cattle and the subsequent economic loss for the livestock sector at the national level was found through mathematical models for predicting the incidence of bites for the country.
