Revolutionizing arthralgia management: JointEase Plus - a comprehensive solution for rheumatoid arthritis pain relief in Latin America

This project used a structured needs assessment process to identify and select an underserved health need to be addressed. Initial needs assessment was conducted through surveys, interviews, literature review and personal observation, and three potential areas emerged: support for emotional crises due to overstimulation, improved forensic examination methods for sexual offences, and management of arthralgia in rheumatoid arthritis patients. For each need, extensive research was conducted into the underlying disease, existing solutions, stakeholder landscape and market potential. Ultimately, the need related to arthralgia in rheumatoid arthritis patients over the age of 45 in Latin America was selected, culminating in the need statement: " A way to address arthralgia in people diagnosed with arthritis over 45 years of age in Latin America that provides relief from joint pain". Key supporting concepts supported the prioritization of this need. The pathophysiology of the disease, involving immune system attacks on the joint lining, underlies the chronic pain and joint destruction experienced. Existing pharmaceutical, surgical and complementary therapies have limitations in terms of accessibility, side effects and adequate relief of persistent arthralgia. Stakeholder analysis highlighted the significant burden on patients, healthcare providers, payers, and society. Market analysis revealed a large RA patient population of over 5.4 million in the target age group in Latin America, representing a significant potential impact. With a strong need identified, the project focused on developing an innovative solution to improve arthritis management for this underserved patient segment.
