Summary: | In this study, we analyzed the short-term effects of air pollution on Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) in Bogotá, Colombia. Daily and weekly counts of COPD, concentration of air pollutants and meteorological factors from January 2016 to December 2017 in Bogotá were included in our study. A generalized-additive model with negative binomial distribution was used to explore the respiratory effects of PM10 after controlling for confounding variables. Subgroup analyses were also conducted by gender and temporality. A total of 115,539 COPD cases were included in the study. In the single-pollutant model, in daily and weekly temporalities, the PM10 has a strong and significance positive relation with the COPD cases. In the same way, the multi-pollutant models, daily and weekly, shows a significance positive relation between PM10 and the COPD cases, also the COPD cases shows a significance positive relation with different pollutants and meteorological variables. The effect of the air pollutants... |
